Today I went to Franklin to meet some old friends. I hadn't seen them in years. I think I went to a birthday party or something a few years ago. I went to school with Sarah and Emily before I attended Brentwood Academy. I can't remember exactly which movie it was, but I ran into Sarah and her mom at the movie theater sometime last year and they let me know that Sarah was getting married and asked if I could play at the wedding.
So today I drove down to run some pieces and see them. I really want to do an excellent job so I need to practice a lot this week. I work tomorrow and Tuesday, maybe Wednesday, but then I requested the rest of the week off from work.
I originally was going to fly to Syracuse, NY with my sister to see our grandparents, but then remembered it conflicted with this wedding. It's unfortunate I can't go but it works out nicely so I have a few days to really get prepared before the wedding on Saturday. It's crazy how fast this summer has gone by! Luckily my brother in law can use the ticket so it's not a complete waste.
Driving down to Franklin was kind of like driving 7-8 years into the past. Except I noticed all the new buildings they had put up. Even though it had been years I remembered how to get there just fine. The girls were a little late coming home from the mall but I played through some stuff and it went well. We had some pie (apple, I think) a la mode and talked about old times. It was really great seeing them again.
I learned through Facebook a while back that their parents were moving to Seoul, Korea for their dad's job. We talked about that a bit. I have always wanted to go to Korea, so if I have a chance to go in the next few years I would have friends there and a place to stay! (Jay is also over there, but I think he has to go into the army soon) Korea is my next trip, for sure.
I was adopted and came to the US at the age of 4 months, so I have no recollection of Korea. I don't really remember anything before I was 7, for that matter. I have always been fascinated with Korea and frankly wished I was more Korean. I have tried to teach myself the language but I am not very good at teaching myself things unless I am enrolled in a class. I love Kim-chi and Bulgogi, but I have rarely tried other dishes at the Korean restaurants I know.
My love of foreign films overlaps with my interest in Korean, and I have several Korean movies, almost all of which I love. (I HATE the ending of Old Boy, an otherwise fantastic movie) They will get their own posts one day, if I have the time. In particular, I want to see The Uninvited so I can compare it with the Korean movie it is based on, A Tale of Two Sisters.
Looking for The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, to be explained in a later post, I ran across a few books about Korea in my library. Sun and Moon is a collection of Korean fairy tales, and I thought I'd share one. As this post is already fairly long, I'll create another one.
