So I've spent a few nights over at Martha's new house since I came back from out west. I really love their house and am glad they now have a guest bedroom where I can crash. The only downside is that the floors creak and you can hear everything that is going on in any part of the house at any given time. But it's better than being super cramped. Oh, and they also got an inversion machine, where you lay back and get flipped upside down. It's supposed to help your back (Brian has back issues) but it made my back hurt. It's fun, but I suppose I'm lucky to not have back problems like a slipped disc.
I went over to work at Martha's old house, and cleaned out their gutters. The stuff that collects in there actually would make great compost. Then I used Dad's pressure washer to clean the house. It didn't take as long as I feared it would, and it was enjoyable work. I had to borrow some of Brian's jeans because I finally split the back of my old pair. I was sitting down on the back step at Martha's and there was a loud 'rip' and that was the end of that pair of jeans.
Martha's friends Wes and Dustin came over along with Brad, and we grilled brats and burgers. They have a small fire pit in the backyard and we made some smores, too. They are really cool guys, and it was fun to listen to them discuss the drama at the bar. I thought owning a bar would be like Cheers. Apparently that's a pretty accurate picture of life owning a bar. Everybody knows each other and there's gossip and drama just like high school.
I am really excited to go to Boulder! I did some simple searches for apartments in and around Boulder, and was a little daunted by how expensive it is to live there. I will probably need to find a roommate. My fingers are crossed that the quartet ahead of Ars Nova will go somewhere else and I can find a place with Chris and Ben. That would be ideal. I am sad that I won't be going back to Vienna. But I caught up with Oliver and he's planning a road trip across the country to Portland, where he wants to move in the fall. So hopefully he'll stop by Boulder. I'll also try to go see Amelia's senior recital, and hopefully I'll move to Colorado while Westrey is still around. So I've done well to keep in touch with Vienna friends.
It's strange thinking that this could be my last summer in Brentwood. I'm not as optimistic as Mom is about my chances of finding a job, just because I won't be available to work for the entire summer. But I really need the money. I'll work with Dad when he has stuff for me to do, and I'll help Martha clean up the old house and paint it so that they can sell it. Martha has friends who need a dishwasher, but their restaurant where they work is way up in Hendersonville. I'm also anxious to hear back about financial aid at CU. I got an email today saying that I was accepted at ASU, but they aren't offering any financial aid. I'm glad that I got in, but I already knew that I would go to Boulder if they wanted me.
Oh! I almost forgot to mention the adorable stray kitten we found at Martha's! We lured it closer with bits of hotdog, and I eventually caught it. It still had claws but didn't seem wild or scared of people. We debated what to do with her, and Brian said he didn't want it kept at the house. Martha is allergic, anyway. I'm wondering if I'm completely over my cat allergies, too. It was so cute that I would have adopted it, but luckily Sam responded and said that she was looking for a cat to raise with Fid.
The kitten was friendly and purred like the world's smallest lawnmower. I'm amazed by how light and nimble cats are. When I picked up this kitten it was so light. Out in Phoenix, when I went to the Wilkison's apartment to drop off my violin while we went hiking, one of their 6 cats was very friendly. I had heard that this was the case, but it was startling how a cat's tongue feels like sandpaper when they lick you.
At any rate, I'm pretty sure it's just my normal spring allergies acting up, since everything is beginning to bloom, but I've been sneezing and blowing my nose non-stop for the past week.
