Serenade me, blue eyes -
Through your long locks
I see the wind,
The counterpoint
To your song.
Speak to me truly -
I can tell when you are lying,
Even when your lips are silent.
There is no hope for me
That I might be chosen.
I have tied myself to the mast;
Why should I not then hear
Your voice, uninhibited?
Your gift of song is beyond price,
For I am under no delusion of eternity.
So hold me but for a while
In your sweetest gaze,
And smile. I pray
You think fondly of me
When I am gone.
