Wow, I am so glad that I got back up to practice tonight. I didn't get much sleep last night and overslept my alarm. Besides being 40 minutes late it was a good day of work and we finished the fence completely. I was tired and after dinner took a nap, intending to wake up and babysit for a few hours. Luckily Martha didn't need me after all, so I slept until 9. I am proud of myself for making myself get up and practice.
After about an hour of Sevcik exercises, I felt great. I played the last two pages of Sibelius but didn't spend a lot of time on it. I think I've found what fingerings I want to do at the end, which octaves to play normally and which to play fingered octaves. It's super hard to play in tune consistently but I felt encouraged.
Then I read through most of my excerpts for the Huntsville audition. I could play so in tune! Don Juan and Bartok (which I didn't get to tonight) need special attention but the others are coming along nicely and I will be pleased if I play them that well on Sunday.
Mom said she'd babysit for me on Saturday so that I can practice and get sleep, thank God.
I am hoping that if I continue practicing (and writing) that I can establish a positive reinforcement loop. The highs that I felt yesterday after I wrote a poem and today after practicing so well should encourage me to make practicing and writing a habit. Blogging is already becoming a habit, I think.
I just came across this idea of thinking processes (theory of constraints) and I will look into it more, as it seems exactly the methodology that I intend to employ in this period of self-improvement.
