Not only did I practice for 2 solid hours today (scales are magic) but I finally wrote a poem I am happy with!
Inspiration hit and I am so elated that I have created something. I have been working on releasing my creativity, both in music and in poetry, but not directly for the past week or so. What I mean is that I listened to music and read Steinbeck and The Courage to Create (which I need to finish) and today I read a few of The Sonnets to Orpheus, by Rainer Maria Rilke and I have listened to Rob Inglis narrate The Lord of the Rings the past few days. And I have written very consistently all October. But I hadn't sat down and tried to write poetry or practiced.
I feel joy, like life is beating in my heart again. This poem really springs out of all my musings and frustrations during this time of serious reflection.
The old self is dying
Every moment.
Let us grapple with ourselves
And wrestle in intimate places -
And so consecrate our bodies,
Setting each bone in its right place,
Conforming to the character
Of our will.
Breaking free of all chains
We dare to twist ourselves
Into something immaculate
And strive to meet the
Immortality of the stars.
Death is transcendence
To be sought daily
With open arms.
