Grimms Märchen und Strauss Waltzer

Rachel gave Robbie and me thank you cards after we performed on her recital. The Saint Saens went quite well, and it's been a pleasure playing together. I should probably do something for Rachel as a thank you for playing on my jury, since I didn't get my music in to the accompanists on time.

I spent most of this morning and afternoon deciding what to buy with the $15 iTunes card from Rachel. I've been daydreaming a lot about Vienna again, so I decided to get the Strauss New Years' Concert in Vienna. I believe the same concert is mostly on YouTube, but I have fallen in love with Strauss waltzes. There is nothing quite so evocative of Vienna.

Then I started looking for some short audiobooks auf Deutsch. Eventually I really want to own a copy of LOTR in German. But since I only had $4 left and my German is terrible, I looked up some readings of Grimms fairy tales. It took some searching to be sure that they were the exact same versions (verbatim) as my little Reclam book I've been meaning to translate since I returned from Austria. I bought two stories: Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten and Dornröschen (Sleeping Beauty). I don't know the first story, but apparently it's about a donkey who runs away to become a musician. It's so nice listening to German with the text in front of me. I think it will help me get back to studying the language.

Considering my future after my Master's program is finished, there's nothing I'd rather do than return to Austria. I'm not sure how serious Amelia or Westrey would be, but if one or both of them came with me, it would be heaven. With that dream in mind, I have a lot to do towards becoming fluent in German. It's nice to dream. It will motivate me to work hard. And why not? There's no reason I couldn't make my dream happen.
