Studio Class - Mock Jury

I spent all day practicing Sibelius. I tried to wake up early and got to school sometime after 8. I had to skip Bibliography (other people's final presentations) to prepare for rehearsal and a coaching with Rachel. Rehearsal at 11 was okay, but still rough. Orchestra reading comp. major's works was kind of a drag. I only liked one of the pieces, and they were awkward and harder than any Blair piece we read (for Kurek's orchestration class). Playing in Rachel's lesson didn't go so much better, but I had to eat and went to check out the tiny Korean place in the cafeteria across the street from the Bookstore by my house. Kate told me about it and I'm really glad she did. Of course I never have much money to eat out but it was good bulgogi for $8.

I got back to school and practiced for another few hours before our extra studio class / mock jury. I went first because Rachel was there, and though the Beethoven was good, I still haven't completely rememorized the Bach, and I had a ton of memory slips in the Sibelius. Everyone else sounded great overall. Lina brought snacks for when we took a break, and she laughed when I was eating Pirouette cookies because I hold them like cigars. After we finished, we moved to Chamber Hall and I played through the Sibelius from memory, and I nailed it. It was truly the best result I could have hoped for from my intense practicing the past few days. It wasn't just satisfactory, I have rarely sounded as good as I did tonight. It just happened to be after I fell apart in front of my peers. Sarah came by later and said she was done practicing in Grusin, so I went and played through Sibelius and Bach again one last time. It's been a long, exhausting day, but it feels really good to hear the fruits of your labor.
